Three ways to plan your run
Two numbers in. Your next target out.
Use this pace, time and distance calculator to connect what you know with what you want to find. Choose a calculation, enter two values and see the result immediately.
- Calculate required pace
- Know your distance and goal time? Choose Required pace to find the average pace you need.
- Calculate race finish time
- Know your distance and pace? Choose Finish time to use the tool as a race time calculator.
- Calculate running distance
- Know your available time and pace? Choose Distance to see how far you can run.
Choose kilometres or miles in the input dropdown. In Distance mode, choose /km or /mile beside Pace. The calculator keeps the same underlying values when you switch units.
Common race distances
Find the pace behind your finish time
From a first 5K to a marathon goal, a race pace calculator makes the target concrete. These examples show the average pace needed for four familiar finish times.
| Race | Distance | Finish time | Pace /km |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5K | 5 km | 25:00 | 5:00 |
| 10K | 10 km | 50:00 | 5:00 |
| Half Marathon | 21.0975 km | 2:00:00 | 5:41 |
| Marathon | 42.195 km | 4:00:00 | 5:41 |
Half marathon and marathon calculations use 21.0975 km and 42.195 km exactly. A rounded pace is a display value: entering it again can produce a slightly different finish time.
A half marathon in two hours. A marathon in four.
Both goals require the same average pace: about 5:41.27 min/km. If you use the half marathon pace calculator for a sub-two-hour target, choose a pace faster than that threshold. At 5:41 min/km, the finish time is approximately 1:59:54; the same pace over a marathon gives approximately 3:59:48.
Beyond race day
Fit a run into the time you have
Use the running distance calculator when your time is fixed: 60 minutes at 6:00 min/km covers 10 km. Use it as a running time calculator when your route is fixed: 8 km at 6:00 min/km takes 48 minutes.
For a custom route, enter its distance instead of selecting a race preset. All results assume a constant average pace across the full run.

Running time, distance and pace FAQ
How do I calculate race finish time?
Multiply your average pace by the distance, using matching units. At 5:00 min/km, a 10 km race takes 50:00. Choose Finish time, enter the distance and pace, and the calculator shows your finish time. Include stops in your average pace if you want elapsed time.
What pace do I need for a sub-2-hour half marathon?
For the full 21.0975 km distance, exactly two hours requires about 5:41.27 min/km (9:09.19 min/mile). To finish under two hours, your average must be faster than that. A steady 5:41 min/km gives about 1:59:54, leaving only a few seconds of margin. Allow for any stops and extra distance you actually run.
What pace do I need for a 4-hour marathon?
Exactly four hours over 42.195 km requires about 5:41.27 min/km (9:09.19 min/mile). At 5:41 min/km, the calculated finish time is about 3:59:48. Use the marathon preset and enter 4:00:00 in Required pace mode to see the average pace and speed.
How far will I run in 60 minutes?
It depends on your average pace. In 60 minutes, you cover 10 km at 6:00 min/km, 12 km at 5:00 min/km, or 6 miles at 10:00 min/mile. Choose Distance, enter 1:00:00 and your pace to calculate running distance.
How do I calculate pace from distance and time?
Divide your total time by distance. For example, 50 minutes divided by 10 km is 5:00 min/km. Choose Required pace and enter your distance and target time. This running pace calculator works with race presets or a custom distance in kilometres or miles.
Can I use this as a 5K or 10K pace calculator?
Yes. Select 5K or 10K, then enter a target time to calculate required pace, or choose Finish time and enter your pace. A 25-minute 5K and a 50-minute 10K both require an average of 5:00 min/km. Half marathon and marathon presets work the same way.
Does the calculator predict my race performance?
It calculates the relationship between time, distance and a constant average pace. It does not predict whether you can sustain that pace or adjust for hills, weather, fatigue or stops. Use it to explore a target and understand the numbers behind it.
